So you would like to become a volunteer and have some questions?
Hopefully we have answered them for you.
Are there any requirements?
Volunteers must submit a yearly background check through Sterling Volunteers as a requirement of KCPS. A good deed code will be provided at the volunteer training session.
You are required to attend the virtual volunteer training session, August 30th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
What is the time commitment?
Awesome Ambitions Saturday meets every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month starting September 18th from 10 am to 1 pm. Awesome Ambitions KCPS meets one Friday every month from 10 am to 1 pm. The sessions are in person and the calendar of events will be posted online. You can sign up for the sessions you would like to attend, there is no minimum or maximum. We would like for you to be present for the full event.
What does a volunteer do?
Anything. It depends. If we are at the UMKC SON, we need help with checking girls in, greeting parents, helping guest speakers setup, handing out supplies, helping with lunch set up; making sure everything runs smoothly. If we are being hosted by a company, volunteers serve mainly as chaperones.
Awesome Ambitions runs like any business/organization but solely on volunteers. We are looking people who want to help young girls in whatever capacity they can. We really need people to be present on Fridays and Saturdays. However, if you are unable to serve as a volunteer in that specific capacity, there is plenty of work that goes on outside of those days that you could help with as well. Whatever skills you have, we can use them.
How many girls are in Awesome Ambitions?
We have 72 girls signed up for Awesome Ambitions KCPS and 67 girls signed up for Awesome Ambitions Saturday.
